This assignment helped me better understand how large-scale technological developments connect to everyday experience. Headrick’s discussion of computing and networking initially felt broad and historical, but working through the ideas allowed me to see how those changes directly shape my daily habits. Using AI during the writing process helped me organize these connections more clearly and move from general concepts to specific examples.

One of the most helpful aspects of working with AI was its ability to support structured thinking. I was able to break down complex historical developments into smaller, more manageable ideas and then connect those ideas to my own experience. This made it easier to move from summary to analysis, which is something we emphasized in class. Instead of simply describing Headrick’s points, I was able to explain how they continue to influence the present.

At the same time, I became more aware of the importance of maintaining control over the direction of my work. AI could help organize and clarify, but it did not determine what was meaningful. I had to decide which examples to include and how to interpret them. This reinforced the idea that technology supports thinking but does not replace it, a theme that has come up repeatedly throughout the course.

This assignment also helped me recognize how deeply information technology is integrated into my own thinking process. I do not just use technology to find answers; I use it to explore ideas and develop understanding. This connects to our class discussions about how technology does not simply change what we do, but how we think. In my case, learning has become more interactive, immediate, and responsive, shaped by the tools I use.

Overall, this experience strengthened my understanding of the relationship between technological systems and human behavior. It showed me that the rise of information technology is not only a historical development, but an ongoing influence on how I learn, communicate, and organize my life. It also reinforced a key takeaway from the course: that while technology expands our capabilities, it also requires us to remain aware of how it shapes our habits and expectations.
